    Hope is the thing with feathers

Something with feathers
outgrew them, it seems
                                    and flew off.
Not officially, no announcement
          on the news in either language.
But it's in the air
                          a pensive drift
of fledgling moult.

                                   ... For listeners
at home I should explain:
                                          the maestro
has put his cello aside to demonstrate
placement.
                  He leans
slightly forward, and now
- arms reaching out and around -
