Beau Hopkins

Beau Hopkins was born in 1982 and grew up in in Oxfordshire. He studied for a BA in French and Spanish at Oxford University, and an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. He has lived and worked in Spain, France and Uganda, where in 2012 the production of his play, The River and the Mountain, attracted global attention and was censored by the Ugandan Media Council. His début poetry pamphlet, Figment Music, a sequence of nineteen experimental sonnets, was published by Gatehouse Press in 2017. He is currently working on his first full-length collection of poems, which will include free contemporary translations of the Vulgate psalms, Ovid’s exile poems and the Acoli-language song poems of Ugandan poet Okot p’Bitek. He is finishing a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of East Anglia, for which he has written a thesis on J.H. Prynne’s 2011 volume, Kazoo Dreamboats.
