Volume 40 Number 5
May - June 2014
Cover image: The cover image, This is how a fire is fought, comes from the illustrated book The boy with a fire in his boot (2014), designed and illustrated by Carla Kreuser as part of her Master’s degree in Illustration (Stellenbosch University, South Africa). The boy with a fire in his boot uses Carcanet poet Katharine Kilalea’s evocative poem about a fire in the Tsitsikamma forest (published in PNR 178, November–December 2007, and in One Eye’d Leigh, Carcanet, 2009) to illuminate and explore the dialogue that develops between poetry and illustration when they encounter each other on the page.
