Absalom Daughter

If I see you
toiling in the field, all things
are as they are appointed. So they
say. But I
know better, by far,

as I, reeling
at the whirling of the world, tell things
are as they are: disjointed on a
sea. But I
now believe, before

that poison truth,
also in deep currents: invisibly
flowing in oceans. Cool
wavering sea-ways; the wild
cumbrous path, till all
silently records

the chosen path
also; keen, apparent; invisibly
