Two Poems

The Guest Speaker Speaks
She wore a red jacket -
it lit up the distance
with the dark gleam
Black Doris plums have
before they ripen,
or a crimson hibiscus.

Among suited shoulders
earth-black, she grew
like a flower, a flame,
cell of light in the careful
dimness audiences create.
Perched on my risky rock

I kept looking up, watching
for that bright centre -the door
that brings a first chink
