Two Poems

Sebastian Barker

In the Valley of the Moselle

I love you, yes, with all my heart
     Pounding on my hotel bed,
Shafts of sunlight beaming through
The strictest studies in my head.
Curves of concupiscence keep
None so comely as your own:
My heart is pounding on my bed,
My arms around you - cut in stone -

Behold the river running by
The hotel window, where we drink
Shafts of sunlight in the wine
As subtle as the thoughts we think.
I love you, yes, with all my mind
     Racing round the summer air,
Down the river valley, up
     Ecstatic vineyards everywhere.
