sweepings from the poorhouse floor

Charleroi's slow factories turn like the Ferris
wheel in The Third Man

        Louvain, Gand, Anvers
river-cities face to face with themselves
        Leuven, Gent, Antwerpen

Bruges one long aftermath, held breath
