PROCRIS

Now she is wearing a blue gown
Covering her ankles
And red sandals
And a necklace
Decorated with shells. Now she is smiling
Wide, a twinkling ocean.

Now she is gazing out of the door.
Now her blank eyes slant to the side.
Now she is wearing a secret smile
Which sometimes she changes
For a secret numbness.

Now she is asleep, like Procris
Under the hands of Pan
Who has found a leopard
In the form of a young girl, asleep,
