RAT ISLAND

  1.
With first light
The bearings surface.

From Tennyson's memorial
To Sway tower,
From Jack in the basket
To Fawley,
Point after point
Rises on time.

I mark them,
Borne back
On a freshening wind.

The sea completes the circle

  2.
There are no rats;
Except at high spring,
No island.

Only a relic
