Lookout

God no
but a likeness or two

up there watching you
watch ribbed strays amble and pee

on old trees giving up
no man’s olives

as cloud shadow
slips across quick as Elijah

on the run south
(fearful stopover

in these hills Jezebel
breathing hard in a nightmare)  

bright ghosts with baskets
knowing no Wall

stooping to gather
khubeizeh’s rounded leaves
