Crrrrr crrrrr   crrrrr crrrrr   
is a crow ringing is a 
telephone hopping blackly across the grass
and you’re in my ear saying
is my memory a burden to you?
your voice
matter-of-fact but also concerned

this never occurred to me until you
asked (who asked?). It’s a fine thing
to live with though I’d rather
live with you. Look over there
on a bench – woman and man
making what they can of each other
and here I am hearing voices
when I’d only expected
