I just got
a summer job
in a blues band
playing sax
for the wedding waltz
of the skeletal bride
in her narrowing dress
and ashen veil
rocking and pleating
her plain fingers
in perfect time,
growing more wasted
by the hour.

We live between
the stockpiled passion
of our work routine
and time off-stage
when street-sweepers
