The Baghdad Wolf

Robert Minhinnick
1. Gas

Ghaz! Ghaz!
The summons is called
by the gas man who raps
his orange gas canister
with a spanner…

Back street muezzin he,
Never the call to prayer
more welcome.

2. The Art Gallery (1)

The stars have vanished
       but we still glance up.

Something is crossing the Tigris
        as if searching.

Then it travels along Palestine Street
         like a woman,
             sleek, silver, swimming.

Now see what it has become.
