Andrew Motion
Up country, her husband is working late
on a high cool veranda. His radio plays
World Service News, but he does not listen,
and does not notice how moonlight fills
the plain below, with its ridge of trees
and shallow river twisting to Lagos
a whole night's journey south. What holds
him instead are these prizes that patience
