THE SHOW

There will be a show
sometime of the trees
outside the poets' windows,
brought together from Provence,
the Lake District and Chicago.
They will be framed so
that you will see as the poet did.
Some parts will be hidden -
the trunk, or the topmost netting
where the lightest life would be sitting.
It will be worthwhile seeing this;
you will begin to understand what a realist
the strangest poet is. Later when you see his
photograph you will sense the very branches
that wrapped his chest as he sat
where he must have had to sit.
And his manuscript, you will later note,
