July. The darkness hints
at the edges of counters, the kitchen
Warm with the smell of a summer storm.
The grown-ups talk in low voices.
The young girl's father sits near the window
watching drops of rain arrange
themselves along the glass.

December.
The snow
begins
to build.
The girl
takes a handful
and moulds it
