LEAVING

One among barren thousands, their
Terraced house he'd loved and hated so
- Leaving aside forbidden memory:
That flickered like the weather. Its fruits;
The anxious waiting period, possession
Clouded with contractual quibbles, my first
Cuckoo, a commonwealth of plants
Acquiring side-shoots and names, another kingdom
Of the weeds. Cuba they'd lived through
There, that was living, nail-biting
On their edge: give us security
Another week year all of our
Chancey allocated lives. And still the orange sun
Sets in a wine-red sea.
