Five Poems

I did not go.
I waited till late
to decide yes or no.

The rain may have played a part.
It was hard, too wet to wear
my new sheer skirt.

I’d been prepared to drive, to say:
just a cup of tea please.
But who wants to arrive
in trousers you’ve worn before,

to sit tired and listen
in another person’s kitchen
while they share their thoughts,

and you try to work out
if you should or should not be
sharing yours?

That night, I did not go.
