Fifty years later
the Ravensbrück survivor
got out her notebooks.

The Gestapo seized her trunks
of thesis chapters with her.

They were lost. She lived –
not a Jew, a resistant.
Ninety, she rewrote

dialogues from the Aurès
under the tents or the stars.

Under freezing rain
we walked back from the film, up
the rue de Charonne.

The doctor-turned-journalist
was an old comrade of hers,

got out of prison
