All living beauty is the prey of death -
so says Guido Gozzano. Cocteau insists
the prerogatives of beauty rather great;
Nabokov claims the garbling of an image
by faulty memories enhance its beauty.
Rousseau considers nature's beauty inferior
to the riches of his own imagination.
