Anniversary

The white rhododendron has come into flower
- one glistening cluster, ripe and virginal
at the same time; it's grown too, in the year
it's been marking the spot - yours, we said,
walking across to it under the apple trees carrying
our glasses of wine - 'yes, this is the place',
and I think we each did a bit with a trowel.
