The spiders have chosen
the most beautiful room
and now they’re here to stay.
You may not see them
but they have already found
their favourite corner,
high up on the ceiling where it’s always dark,
high up where they can always hide.
The walls around them painted in shades
of violet blue, violet pink and grey.
I see shades of blue grey, blue lavender,
a hint of aubergine,
dusty brownish pale pink
and subdued violet.

I think of a garden in summer dusk –
birdsong after rain –
shadows deepen across hortensia, larkspur –
