If, like a crab, I could go back
three centuries, I would in eloquent
and latinate miltonic verse declaim
that I the scuttling seabed crab observe
to bear his body-head, or offal-pie,
sideways on spider legs, brandishing pairs
of pincer thumbs on swollen elbows, while
backward from danger lobsters leap, propelled
