Daily I visit you
As if you needed me;
We're strangers here, it's true,
Divided by the sea
From England, home, the place
We both grew up in once,
But that's not what I trace
In your still countenance,
Still and demurely young,
Untested yet by life
Not knowing how you're strong,
A daughter, no-one's wife,
Protected, loved, and yes
Awkwardly beautiful.
